THE WRITING CENTRE

The Writing Centre offers FREE writing services to current students throughout various stages of their writing projects.

Our aim is to help students improve their written competence in all classes, and develop their own voices and editing skills.

When you visit the Writing Centre, you can pick up a handout on the research and writing process.

During the tutoring session, we ask writers questions to encourage them to revise their drafts for increased clarity of ideas, logical organization, and overall effectiveness. We are not a proofreading or editing service but work with writers to help them learn to edit their own work.

We look at writing not only as a static text but also as a process of learning and problem solving in order to create new meaning and greater understanding.

Welcome!

Tutoring
If you need help with your paper - in terms of content development, structure, organization, grammar or spelling - make an appointment with the Writing Centre. Please, be sure to submit the paper at least 24 hours prior to the appointment to allow time for the tutors to go through your work. You can either send the paper electronically or bring it in hard copy.
Tutors will point out your strengths and weaknesses in terms of the writing process, but will not rewrite the text with you - you yourself are responsible for your writing! Regarding grammar and spelling mistakes, tutors will mark them, but, again, it is up to you, not to the tutor, to correct them eventually.

Class Visits
At the request of an instructor at NYUS, Writing Centre tutors can visit classes, in any academic discipline, to talk briefly about our services.
